Paul Taublieb is a multi-Emmy winning filmmaker, producer, and entrepreneur known for his work in the world of action sports and documentary filmmaking. I consider myself fortunate to have spoken with Paul during one of those rare intervals when he managed to find respite from his extensive journeys. He was gracious to share a collection of captivating anecdotes woven from the threads of his past expeditions.

ABOUT Paul Taublieb

Paul Taublieb has directed and produced multiple award-winning documentaries, including the critically acclaimed film “Riding Giants” (2004), which explores the history and evolution of big wave surfing. This documentary brought the awe-inspiring world of big wave riding to a broader audience and showcased the incredible stories of the sport’s pioneers.

In addition to his work in surfing, Taublieb has also delved into other action sports, including skateboarding and motocross. He produced the hit documentary “Unchained: The Untold Story of Freestyle Motocross” (2016), which examines the rise of freestyle motocross and the incredible risks taken by its athletes. The film received widespread acclaim for its gripping storytelling and behind-the-scenes look at the sport.

Beyond action sports, Taublieb has been involved in other documentary projects that shed light on important social issues and human stories. One such example is the documentary “The Vow from Hiroshima” (2020), which tells the story of Setsuko Thurlow, a survivor of the Hiroshima atomic bombing, and her lifelong commitment to peace activism.
